This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app. We built Afterglass around a simple principle: your experiences are yours. We don't sell your data. We don't broadcast your tastings. We don't treat you as a product.
This policy applies to the Afterglass mobile app and related services.
What Information We Collect

When you create an account and use Afterglass, you share:
Account Information: Your name, email address, and password
Tasting Notes: Wine details, your impressions, ratings, and memories
Photos: Images you upload during or after tasting sessions
Session Data: Information about tastings you host or join, including date, location, and participants
Winery and Wine Data: Wineries you visit, wines you taste, and preferences you build over time
Social Connections: Friends you connect with and sessions you share
Information We Collect Automatically
When you use the app, we automatically collect:
Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
Usage Data: How you interact with the app, features you use, session activity
Location Data: Approximate location when you check in at a winery (only if you grant permission)
Technical Data: IP address, crash logs, performance diagnostics
Information from Third Parties
If you join a session hosted by someone else, we receive basic information (like your name and email) from the host who invited you.

Share your tasting activity publicly without your consent

How We Share Your Information
With Other Users (By Your Choice)
Session Participants: When you join a tasting session, other participants can see your name, notes, and photos shared within that session
Hosts: When you join someone's hosted session, they can see your tasting notes and activity within that session
Friends: If you connect with friends, they can see tastings you've shared with them
You control what you share. Sessions are private by default. Guests must accept invitations to join.
With Service Providers
We work with trusted third parties who help us run Afterglass:
Supabase: Hosts our database and backend infrastructure
Apple: Provides app distribution, TestFlight beta testing, and authentication services
These providers only access your data to perform services on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.
For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to:
Comply with applicable laws or regulations
Protect the rights, property, or safety of Afterglass, our users, or others
Detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues

Your Choices and Controls
Access and Update Your Information
You can view and edit your profile, tasting notes, and preferences directly in the app.
Delete Your Data
You can delete individual tasting notes, photos, or sessions at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at [email]. We'll permanently delete your data within [30 days], except where we're required to retain it by law.
Export Your Data
You can export a copy of your data through Settings.
Control Session Participation
You choose which sessions to join
You can leave a session at any time
Hosts cannot force you to share notes or photos
Silent participants can be present without contributing notes
Manage Communications
You can opt out of non-essential emails in your account settings. We'll still send you important service-related messages (like session invitations or account security alerts).
Data Security
We take security seriously:
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
We use Row Level Security (RLS) policies to ensure you only see data you're authorized to access
We limit employee access to your information
We regularly test our systems for vulnerabilities
We use industry-standard authentication and authorization
However, no system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at privacy@afterglass.app.
Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we'll delete your data within 30 days, except:
Information required for legal or regulatory compliance
Aggregated, anonymized data that no longer identifies you
Backups, which are deleted according to our standard retention schedule
Children's Privacy
Afterglass is not intended for anyone under 21 (or the legal drinking age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at [email] and we'll delete it.
International Data Transfers
Afterglass is based in California, USA. If you access the app from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using Afterglass, you consent to this transfer.
